Default Tranny getting rebuilt, 20k miles

Yep...I was having all kinds of weird symptoms like lagging shifts, stuttering under moderate acceleration...my car even bogged and stalled in the middle of traffic. So...yeah. It's getting rebuilt. Just for the record, I beat on it pretty hard...probably more than most people on this board.

Are you going through warranty or having it rebuild by a good tranny shop so that it can take more abuse?

warranty for now. I just need my car running. If I keep the car, it'll get the proper treatment. For now, I have my eyes on the so-called "G8 ST".

My car had the same problems, they ended up replacing the 2nd gear clutch set and drum, that seems to have fixed it. Good luck, let us know how you make out.

Wow....this is good and bad news, i guess. Hope it works out for you.

I get some weirdness once in a while...but it doesn't happen frequently enough. Wonder if I should let the dealer do the fluid swap just in case there are shavings in there. At least then it's not hearsay if i say I saw them.

ya i have had 2 tranny replacements at 45k miles. First time they rebuilt the whole thing and the second time, which was recently, took it to a different dealer and they replaced the whole thing. the dealer who replaced the tranny recently said the dealer before did some really weird stuff putting it back together. they wouldn't say if it was caused by them but they told me it might not be a good idea to go back to them. haha

My gear box works fine too at 13K. I have stupid things happen to my car like the passenger seat clacking around, my headliner making scratching noises, clomp clomp clomping steering rack, and now my right rear suspension is creaking under articulation. the Stealer ordered an new seat track and they greased the stabilzer bushings but that didn't work... Instead of fastening up my headliner they readjusted my sunroof.......I fixed the headliner myself....key fobs are fobulicious! Nothing wrong there, I thought I'd have them verify the range.

this is something i discussed over at club gp, but sometimes (i think the situation is my transmission gets too hot) but it wont let me shift it how i want to. using the paddle shift, i tend to upshift whenver possible to maximize fuel economy.....normally 1st and second are good at whatever speed, then to shift into third i have to be going about 15 mph and 4th is usually available at 25 or so. this is limited to not stall the vehicle. 3-4 times since ive owned this vehicle it has not let me shift this soon and i think it was from a hot transmission (i dont remember exactly what the temp was at the time) the shift points were backed off a bit---i couldnt hit 4th gear until about 55. i put the car into automatic mode and it retained the goofy shift points. after a little while it would go away.

wouldnt it be easier on the tranny to upshift sooner vs running it in a lower gear?

heh i'm extremely hard on my monte carlo everyday and i've had everything but the transmission give me problems. My old monte carlo "2002 MCSS" 3800 gave me loads of problems 9 transmission repairs but i babyed that car so bad it was retarted. This is why i abuse my current car because i beleive it dosn't matter. If anythign the faster shifts of my heavy throttle makes the trans shift faster :X I'm about to take my car in because my Seatbelt wont stay locked i mean how the **** does that happen.

Everyone should describe there driving sitiuation and how there transmission is working. example my old monte carlo was in rush hour traffic everyday with hundreds of stops and goes for 45 minutes both ways 5 days a week. My new monte carlo i never put it threw rush hour and everywhere i go is a straight shot 60mph the whole way. But when i am in the city i mess around alot. "WOT at all sorts of speeds"

I would say it was a computer glitch. I had a few times before, but I have not seen for a while...

Next time try to restart the engine, like you restart your PC.

You could pull the TCM fuse and try to relearn everything and see if it gets better.

I was doing pretty abusive things like putting it in first, winding down to 35 (speed of downshift...F u diablo) so that it drops gear, and going WOT to get it to chirp.....awful for the tranny. But it was fun getting loose at 35 . My friend made a funny comment when I told him I abuse my tranny....get it? Hint...not a car tranny.

I'm personally sick of automatic. I want a manual so I can 100% control over the kind of wear and tear my tranny gets. Computers just suck at knowing what you want to do.

So they went in there and did a bunch of work...replaced clutches, plates, etc. It seemed fine driving back from the dealer. But last night, it started acting up again. gear switching feels very forceful (under light acceleration). At one point, it wouldn't switch into 3rd. Gear...it took the car like three attempts before it was able to get it into third. Should I demand a complete transmission replacement at this point? I mean, I can't afford to be without a car for 5 days in a row like that if it's not guaranteed to be fixed.

Oh and remember how my radio had stopped accepting CD's? well...they fixed that this time around too. They also replaced my dash mat which had some warping....but now, the buttons on my dashboard (DIC) don't work. And my signal ticker is a lot louder...sounds like the ticker on a car from the 80's. wtf?? They can't even replace a dash pad without messing something up....I'm starting to think the radio wasn't a coincidence.

Sorry to hear that man, you should definetly go back and raise hell with them. I find it odd that your dealer doesn't offer rental coverage? Anytime I bring my car in for warranty work, they have Enterprise cover my rental. You should ask them about that, it's not fair that you are without a car for 5 days at a time either.

Aside from you going back and raising hell about the tranny, the signal flasher noise is adjusted via the DIC, so you can fix that...BUT you have no control of that atm, huh? NVM. Sorry for your issues.

I noticed somthing interesting with my transmission just today. I went to the cruise in this morning, I was on the causeway gonig back home and there were these kids in an old Mark 8 that wanted some action. So I gave it to them pretty easy and I noticed the shifts from 2-3 was late. Kinda hit the rev limtier then up shifted..... the last time it did this was whenI changed to the K and N filter and it seemed to adjust it self.... Since then I've done all my exhaust work(still got to get a drive by weather has been less than stellar) and I never reset anything. I assume I need to do this after a modification?

On a wet road stock the car use to break the tires free at 65, now it does it at 80 hehehehehe.

My dealer loves to give me loaners....the two I've had so far from recent first Plus a night shot of a soaking wet Monte....I am confused why this van has 6 bolts holding the wheels on. That Uplander can boogie. Tire roasting on demand!

Ok, the car is back in the shop today. I got a base level grand prix as a rental...seems like I should have gotten something a little bit better...they only gave me enough money for a Full size car, not premium....should be premium in my opinion since it's a fully loaded 32k car new...should I bitch and get something better or is this about right?

Anyways, they better get the tranny right this time. Hopefully they just replace it.
