Default Headlight Switch Backlighting

Just broke 50K (like 50,003), and noticed the back-lighting was out on my headlight switch.

Can one of you guys pull the explosion / spec sheet for it so I can look into taking it out and replacing it?

I hate having non-op devices on a car, but fearing this is a mini-lamp on the PC board, and will need to replace a $60 switch to get the B/L'ing back.

Much appreciated!

Dealer wants $70 for a replacement. Mini-bulb on the PC confirmed.

Can one of you guys pull an explosion for me to see what I'm up against?

Thanks in advance.

So is bulb on the PCB no good. Is it something that a Radio Shack might have? (doubt it)
You'd just have just Desolder the old one and Solder the new one in its place.

Sounds easy.

Trying to get a hold of the Engineer at the assy plant to get a new one.

Yea - resoldering is the easy part. Since the 06's were designed in early 04, more than likely the bulb went EOL a year or two ago, and the PC board was up-reved with new pad dims on the footprint.

Next is matching the light output and color specs of the original (lighting harmony is so subjective) with an "off the shelf" R.S. part. Our suppliers need 3-4 revisions to hit the color spec. And I wouldn't know where my notes are from the program launch, with my contacts list being 3 years outdated.

Maybe $70 is worth the hassle, but the hard part is that the real cost is $7 for the part.
