What octane What octane fuel does everyone run in the ls4's? I have been running 93, I was just wanting to know If we could get by running a lower octane, without hurting the performance to much

In the book that comes in the car, it states that you can run 87 but will have decreased performance. It recommends 91 octane for max. performance. Where I live, we have 87, 89, 93 octane. I have put half 89 and half 93 (equal an octane of 91), it seems to run fine.

The price difference for the 89 vs 93 that you listed is only $.15 a gallon. Say your tank was compleatly empty and it took 17 gallons to fill that is still only $2.55. Come on, you have a $30k car I think you can spend the $2.55 a tank full of gas. That's 5 Sodas out of a machine that you can't buy.

fill up 14 gallons twice a week, top off with 6 gallons once a week (I always try to start off Monday with a full tank)

52 weeks a year

124.1 * 52 = 6453.2
128.86 * 52 = 6700.72
Running the car on 87 would save $350 over the course of a year, its like 5% difference from the price of 93. That's an extra car payment if you are responsible and can actually save the money.
For the record, I use Shell 93. $3.80 / gal and climbing...

see what you guys think of this. last week i drove from syracuse to rochester 2 days. the first day i filled up with 93 octane. the second day i filled up with 87 octane both from the same mobil station i visit every day. both days were very similar in weather, about 65 degrees when i left and about 78 degrees on the way back. both days i had 4 people in the car and both days i set the cruise to the same speed each way. the first day i got 21.5 mpg total trip the second day i got 23.2 mpg. i figured the milage the old fasion way because i dont trust the computer. can anyone explain why i got better mileage on lower quality fuel??
I run 89 in my car all the time and notice no ill effects at all. The car's computer will simply adjust itself. If I were to tow in 100* weather, well then I would run premium. I'm about to experiment with 87 octane and will be interested to see how the car performs. I run my car as a dailey driver for a 60 mile round trip commute daily in Chicagoland so the gas prices are killing me.

93 to 91 here is a 3 cent difference so I just go with 93 it is a heavy hit on the wallet thats for sure.
Not sure if it is because the Gas station just opened.

With your example, (assuming 20 MPG mixed driving), you would be over 35K miles in that year. While I do put close to that much on the little car, most probably don't. So most would probably see more like $120 over the course of a year. Either way, you are looking at a difference of around a penny a mile. Not exactly the budget buster some people seem to think it is...
^^That's it right there. Everyone thinks that it's that crazy but if your figuring $.01 a mile then thats not really anything. The money people will save is not really not that much. Most people will lose damn near the $120 in the couch, washer and dryer, or in a parking lot coming out of a store in a year. Treat your car right.
