Default Exhaust

I know this forum is for ls4 but you guys seem to know your stuff so here it goes. I'm looking for an exhaust for my LTZ. I want to take these Flowmaster's off and replace it with something that is not so loud and better performance. I plan on doing a custom cat-back and going with Magnaflows. Either I want to do 2.5" catback with res. delete back to 2 Magnaflow's oval mufflers or 2 round mufflers and 3.5" tips. Or 2.5" catback with 1 round Magnaflow muffler where the res. would be and piping back to 3.5" tips. How loud do you think it will be with the 1 round muffler? Also are the round mufflers pretty much the same as the oval just in a smaller package? Any other idea's I would appreciate it.

Second one down on the page, if you have the 3.5, which i think the LTZ's might be the 3.9's??

I can get a custom one done for cheaper than that. My dad's buddy is in the exhaust business and is going to do it for me. I don't want it louder then the Flowmasters. I have the 3.9

It wouldn't sound like a ricer regardless. An exhaust for the LS4 would work for the 3.9L. I'd just go custom though personally.

Yeah it won't sound like a ricer. Are those round mufflers the same as the oval mufflers?

Maybe you could get one of these guys take off's?

I gave mine away to a GP friend 'cause I had too many exhaust systems at my house.

I have a Camaro SS one left if anyone is interested.

I'm just wondering what you guys think about this set up? And if the round mufflers are the same as the oval muffler just in a smaller package? I can find the round mufflers for pretty good price brand new

I should be getting everything priced of seprate in the next couple days. I have been talking to hott exhaust in there make a deal and for the MCSS kit they counter offered me $559.00, after I offered $540.00. That is not a bad price when for starters it is $681.00, but will see what I do soon.

I know it would be nice, but depending on the price difference for install I might get it welded on.

Do not run magnaflows with a Chevy 60Degree V6. I gurentee you will not like them...Here's a link to my old GP that had a worked over 3400 running Hooker Aero Chambers and a full 2.5 inch exhaust. If you run the stock pipe it should be quieter. Also recommend some nice non resonating stainless tips.

You want to ask more questions about your engine, come over to www.60degreev6.com. I'm the transmission moderator over there.

I thought the 3.4L and the 3.8L where the 60 degree motors and the 3.5L and the 3.9L where something different. Why don't I want the Magnaflow's on here? I've heard them on Impala's with the same motor and it has sounded pretty damn good.

The 3.8 aka 3800 is a very differnt engine, that one is 90 degree plus some other stuff. The 3900/3500 is the Chevrolet 60 degree motor related to the old 3400/3100 3.4,3.1,2.8 3.4 Dohc or TDC. Magnaflows will make the 60 degree very raspy as I've heard them before.

As you can tell the 3800 is alittle raspy with AeroChambers but the 3400 isnt.

But if you already heard other cars and you like it, then you've obvioulsy have made up your mind.

I had the motors backwards then. I don't have my mind made up. It's just that I want something that sounds good, not as a loud as these old Flowmaster's and better performance. I just heard them before and they sounded pretty good. I was also thinking Borla Pro XS mufflers. My g/f has them on her 3.4 with res. delete and they sound pretty damn good. Not as loud as my car but a better sound IMO. But I still havn't got an price on a custom catback. But if it comes down to close prices I might just go with Magnaflow. Also not a big fan of the Hooker mufflers after hearing them

At least I showed you an example.

I paid over $300 for a custom 2.5" Aluminized steel system for my old GP not including mufflers so that would probably be your ball park.

That is what I was thinking. If my price comes out to that, then I'm going custom. I'm going to reuse my tips. So what do you think will sound better, Magnaflow's or Borla ProXS mufflers?

I don't know which would sound better, but here are 2 links for Dynomax Super Turbo mufflers:

Their muffler recommendations are determined by an engine's size, and are shown at this link:

http://www.dynomax.com/ecat/pdfs/enginesize.pdf

So, the one they recommend for the 3.9 liter engine is cat. no. 17733 (scroll down to see it):

http://www.dynomax.com/ecat/pdfs/superturbo.pdf

BTW, here's what a Dynomax Super Turbo sounds like with a 3800 engine:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j9q4-_JYdsI

Be sure to read some of the comments. LOL!! It does sound like a ricer!!

Dyno Max's I belive work well with the 60Degree....also Spin Techs although strange put out a nice sound as well but will possibly be pretty loud.
Honestly based on my observations I wouldnt do Mangaflow or Borla on a 60Degree v6...Just too raspy and not a very natural note..... But if stainless is your thing, then go for it.

here's an .avi vid of mine... all exhaust is stock... the only thing I did was change the mufflers and tips... I put on Flowmaster Super 40's and magnaflow tips that open up to 4"...

It's not a stainless thing, just don't know what exhaust I want. I knew my exhaust was pretty loud, a little louder then I want it on this car but when I started it up across the parking lot from where my g/f works and she heard me start it up inside the building. Just a little to loud for me.
I would like a nice deep tone at idle, and when you get on it, it screams.
