Default GXP Transmission Fluid Temps

Hey guys, I gotta 08 GXP. My transmission temps are around 175 to 180 degrees. Is this to high. What can I do to lower them. Any help would be great. Thanks.

No thats not to high i would say thats a little low. Usaully on a long drive on a hot day 90+ mine hovers around 205 -210 i wouldnt worry about that
i think most of us would agree thats a good temp.

I've always been told you typically want your tranny to run 10-20 degrees cooler than your engine for optimal performance and longevity. I think you'll be just fine.

so i called gm about operating temp in our transmissions the guy told me normal operating temp is up to 230 he said you should worry if you hit 260 so i think these things can handle a lot of heat

Get aluminum heat sink tranny pan and a tranny temp gauge if you're that worried.

I'd have to install a trans cooler to keep it under 185 degrees! I don't know how you drive your 08' GXP, but even when I think I'm babying my 08', my tranny runs about 190 degrees. Consider yourself lucky. I've had mine up to 240 degrees before (using Tapshift and spanking high dollar, foreign cars light after light = FUN!).

I had to come out of retirement to at that,

Guys anything above 200 is bad news, the highest I'd ever push a stock 4T65E-HD is 185ish before i'd freak out. There is a reason this transmission is under investigation for a recall and heat is it. Its cooled poorly through the radiator stock and if you run stock trans parts on this car sooner or later it will fail. That is documented fact not an opinion.

If you guys want more info read the sticky on the top of this sub forum or go to gmsl4.com, really good conversations about this trans on there.

O.K. back to lurking...

Mine sits at 185-205 normally but gets up to 210-220 when on the highway or stuck in traffic.
