Shifter Block Bypass button As you know on our cars unless you depress the brake you can not move the shifter out of park. I had read a few people had the wire that connects the brake and shifter go bad and they could not get it out of park.
When cleaning the car, at least on the Montes, I pulled out the cup holders just open the center console grab the cup holders an pull up. they are held by four plastic tabs. Once the cup holder is out look in there and on the passenger side of the shifter base you can see a connector and right next to it the button looks like a bolt. you can put a finger or two in there press it down and the shifter works.
Hope this helps some poor soul. Not sure how the imp/gxp/lacross cup holders come out, but the button should be in the same spot.
