Default cam

Since I'm having to tear the car apart again to replace the lifters I've decided I'm going to swap the cam out as well. Kinda understand what I'm reading but not fully yet, so need a little help deciding on a cam for the car. I def would like nice idle sound of a cam but the usable power range to be mid to high rpm area more on the top end peaking around the 5500-5750 area but still able to hit the rev limiter at 6500 with some decent power at the end.

right now I've got comp cam 918 springs, 7.4000" chromemoly pushrods, titanium retainers, and HS 1.8 rockers in the valve train.

originally I was looking at this cam
http://www.compcams.com/Cam_Specs/Ca...csid=1092&sb=2
but seems like the lobe lift is to high with the 1.8's came out to like .616 lift I think at the valve and 918's has a max lift of .600. But again I could be doing the math wrong, I just wanna make sure I buy the right cam before I start to tear everything back apart just to find out got the wrong cam :<
I don't care about DOD, I'm replacing all the lifters with http://www.compperformancegroupstore...Category_Code= not like I have a lite foot to begin with so dod hasn't really done me much good anyhow

Thanks in advance, I have read the https://ls1tech.com/forums/generation-iii-internal-engine/327734-cam-guide.html post just wanna make sure I'm ordering the right stuff is all.

im probably goin with the lunati voodoo 60510, but the 60511 and 60512 are more aggressive if youre changing out lifters etc. somethin to look at and compare with the comp cam ones.

looks like I'd have to go back down to a 1.7 rocker, talked to guys on phone at HS they said could see about swamping out the 1.8's for some 1.7's if did the cam swap. Talk about bad *** customer service nice.

I'm sure you know you'll need a tune right? Not just for the fairly drastic change in cam (can't find any LS4 specs, but I'd assume at least .100" more lift over stock), but if it's DoD and the new cam doesn't support it, you'll need that addressed.

The stock cam peaks at 5600, if you don't want to rev much more than that, it hardly seems worth the bother for less than 5 degrees of duration (and probably less than 5 horses)

You'll want it to peak power around 6100-6200 if you want to shift at 6500. I mean, if you're peaking power, you want to shift just after that, unless the LS4's HP curve is a near table after 5700, which stock it isn't. So you're HP and TQ (not so important in the higher Rs except some of GMs newer motors making peak @ 5400rpms ) are dropping off and you've got another 800 RPMs before you shift. From what I've been reading, and told, is you want to shift just after the peak HP starts to fall. I'd think a 2000-6200 power band cam would be nice, no?

mixerda did end up swapping the cam. The cam along with the other work he did yielded 50whp. Here's a link from his thread over at NAIOA where he kept things more up to date on his project.

While it is alot, he would have spent half of that just to get the rebuild he needed to get it driveable again from the dealer. I forget exactly what they quoted him I know it was over $2k. So he did it all himself and added some goodies.
