Is this something you do with the pulley off the cranks, or with it installed?

You remove the pulley in order to pin the crank.

im pretty sure i need this. Does this work for any balancer?

This is if your running a 8 rib blower setup. This is done with the Blancer on the crank. You drill between the crank snout and balancer and install a small dowl pin to keep the balancer from spinning on the crank snout.

A MUST for anyone doing A 8 rib and plan on pushing 10+ psi

it's also a must if you plan on turning some high rpm's. I've seen balancers come off at the autocross courses and everyone says to pin the crank if you want it to stay on.

Mine is the Actual ATI kit, not the A&A kit. The ATI kit you remove the balancer, and use a fixture to drill in the crank, then pull and install the pin. WIth this kit you can pin the crank in 2 spots if need be. It only works on pulleys with keyways. IE, most underdrive pulleys, ATI damper, Vortech unit, or a stocker that has a keyway machined into it.
