Just got a 96 firebird formula and was wondering what mods to do first? I was thinking 3:73 gears but how hard are they to change, will it affect the speedo, and how much will it affect gas mileage and top speed.

M6 or A4? What's your GU code? Any gear swap will effect your speedo reading but luckily its just a flash of the PCM away from being corrected. As for top speed the higher the gear the less top end your going to have.

Youll still go faster than you need to with 373s. It will affect your gas mileage some but not drastically, especially if you dont do a lot of highway driving.

I switched from 273s to 323s and it was a big difference so you will definitly be happy with gears.

the reason hes asking because if you have 342's theres not point in upgrading to 373's. it will hurt your gas mileage and your speedo.\
if you have to ask if theyre hard to change you dont want to do it yourself

You'll have to pay someone to install them. I was quoted at $200+ for install alone.

i'd go with headers/exhaust,cold air intake, cam and stall ,tires then gears also weight deduction. hopefully your suspension is in really good condition otherwise your be spending money on trying to make that beast plant.

say high to low 12's easy on motor........then a 150shot high mid 11's

for one with an auto he wont have 3:42s.. he will either have 2:73s or 3:23s

if you have 2:73s you dont have a 3 series carrier unit so you will need to get that to do any mod in the 3 series... now if your gears are 3:23 then it will be slighty easier, you jsut buy the gear kit and put the gears in....

it will be a tough job for someone who doesnt know what they are doing and you could mess something up, which we all know you dont want to mess that up as it is vital to your car staying intact or wrecked...your rearend locks up your dicked

Which is why most people will pay to get it done, well at least I would. I remember seeing a video now though, and it included a ring and pinion install on F-Bodies.

i'd say start with bolt-ons..

and if your gonna mod, your better off putting that money away you'd be spending on gears for a 9/12 bolt.
