i would be interested to know why as well. but when it comes time to do yours, invest in some ARP head bolts and go with Felpro 1074 head gaskets. You won't be dissapointed.

mine went cause of a clogged steam pipe which stopped coolant flow

I am guessing they dont like heat cause of the reverse flow design

I have had two lt1 motors in my car one with a 175 shot of nitrous on stock head gaskets at 154,000 miles. No head gasket issues. But i have never had an issue bleeding my coolant system and or overheating. I think that is a big cause of head gasket failure. These engines are picky and you kinda have to know what your doing when working on them or else your liable to cause more damage.

Just like anything else. IF you take care of it no issues. If you dont then these will defintely let you know when they have a problem

The iron head motors is is VERY VERY rare to pop a head gasket. Aluminum has two things working against it, first is the different expansion rates of the iron block and aluminum head causing the gasket to be caught in a little fight between the two ever time it warms or cools, second if overheated badly the OEM aluminum heads can loose hardness in which case it has a hard time holding a gasket and most people do not realize this and just keep reusing the heads that are no longer hard.

If well cares for though they are not particularly prone to head gasket troubles. It is unny the way the internet blows some things out of proportion and in other cases actually hides problems because enough people deny them that it can't be true.

Yea, the LT1 Cooling System is bitchy..but it works. As long as you bleed it right, you are good. The Block can take some heat without a problem, but the Heads will give up first.
