shocking the 10-bolt diff on a sticky surface breaks it. street tires, on the street, won't shock it. the odds are certainly far in your favor.

I've seen dozens of 10 bolts break on the street with street tires.... I blew my first one up on a 2-3 powershift on street tires on a 100% stock lt1 with a catback...

I say S60. I ordered mine and it was a direct bolt-in. You have to get a shorter drive shaft but if your going to do the rear the drive shaft is another weak part of the drive train. I got my S60 with drive shaft shipped for $2,830.

Here is a link to a thread I started about it on a local board:

I too have seen 10 bolts break with street tires on M6 cars, also met a few that it happened to, you don't need to power shift it to break it either, not trying to make you nervious, but you need to realize the shock a stick car puts on a rearend (net alone the suspention), wheel hop is also a big killer, if you've ever seen the ring gear on these 7.5" 10 bolts, you would be surprized how cheesey they are.

Get a midwest 9inch, Weighs the same as the 10-bolt, direct bolt-on.

9" is what, $980 and the S60 is something like $1100-1200. It really then depends on what you plan to make for power. If you're going to go ***** out, then the weight of the S60 won't really matter, but if you plan to go really fast with not a lot of power, the lighter 9" will be more what you're after.

What are you listing Tru Trac and Detroit for? You're wondering about carriers too? I say spool it and if you don't like full time posi on the street, then just get a factory 9" posi third member and some more streetable gears to run. When you get to the track, swap third members and off you go. It's no quick change, but it's not exactly a hard thing to do Or just run one, with something like this.

Already ordered a S60, wich is supossed to be more efficent than a 9". I dont plan on swapping rears just for the track either.

well yes - you go out to try to break it, and you probably could. My 10-bolt lasted 30+ launches and some guy's don't last a couple.

I didn't say swapping REARS for the track. Third Member is a whole unit that pops out of the rears on a 9", it's really slick, and a shame no one else uses it.
