Default M6 RPM X Speed Question.

First of all I always read in the Kill Stories Section, and people say from a roll at say like 55-60 mph put it in 2nd gear? my car would probably be at 5500 RPM if i did that, which would do nothing because its about redlined. My car goes about 30mph in 1st gear and its redlined, 2nd is about 55-60 and so on... Does this seem normal to you guys or....I have 3.42's also when im doing 60 6th im about 1400 rpm. Thanks!!

yea that seems totally normal to me. I have the pretty much the exact same car too. For a good roll I like to keep the rpm's at about 3500-4000 and a 60 roll would be a decent 3rd gear for me. The people that say to put it in second may not have a 3.42 gear

hell at 65-70 I drop into 2nd and nail it! You have to be a fast shifter but it doesnt hit the redline. Oh BTW with a M6 you should be shifting well past 5500 more like 6k

hmm thats strange ill have to take a closer look at my revs next year... i could drop it down into 2nd at those speeds but it wouldnt be the best for a race cause i would be shifting very soon IMO

I dont think my rearend would like that to much Achotrod 10 Bolt. Well i do use the stock tach and I read somewhere there like 400 RPM off? so 5500 would be 5100? Might of been BS though. I usually shift when my car seems to stop pulling. Oh and also instead of making another post...for some reason my car always makes a little grind when i nail 2nd, even with the clutch all the way in...would this be syncros?

Yes that would be a synchro, unless the clutch is just worn out and it wont grab that quick (r u shifting fast when it does this?)

Weird thing is though, my clutch does chatter quite a bit so maybe that is affecting it. Ive puttin on about 3k miles since i bought the car and when i bought it it just had new sycros put in it...$900 worth of labor in the tranny. So i hope its not a bad syncro Thanks for help so far~!!

Ive always found my tachs to be pretty close. Always run pretty good numbers.
True rears dont like it but it shoots you like a rocket down shifting to 2nd. Better gains then shifting to 3rd even with the shift.

sounds like you have 3.73's, cuz I just put some in my car about a month and a half ago and thats what speeds I'm at with those rpm's in the gears you described. With a 3.42 gear in an M6, unless it's a 93 cuz they had different gearing, 2nd would be the premo gear for 55-60, cuz with stock gear first runs out at almost 50, then 2nd at 70ish, and 60 in 6th would be like 1200 r's.

Sounds like you have diff gears, 3.73's maybe? Stock tires?...also make sure you are rev matching while doing all this dropping down to high RPM fun, your car will like you for it. Also i shift at 6K, car pulls fine all the way up.

Do you have the stock ws6 wheels on it? do you have the stock spec tire for a ws6
(275-45-17) if you have a smaller rim or tire it will make change the final drive ratio

with stock gears 1st gear should spin up to 40-45mph... you prolly do have different gears already.... what you say 70mph is in 6th?

Stock size tires, aftermarket 17" rims, unsure on width of rims. 70mph is about 1600 rpm maybe lil lower.

hmmm its really tough to say what kind of gear you hve in there... u may have the stock 3.42s and your tach may be off or it could be a 3.73 You can figure it out by rotating the driveshaft and watching the rear tires
