OK, looks like I have two collapsed lifters. I figure while I have the intake off I might as well replace all of them. So whats the deal with LS7 lifters, they work just fine? GMpartsdirect lists 16 of them for $108? Is this right? Stock replacements from the local parts store are $14 a piece, so obviously that's a deal.
So looking for recommendations, this has to be done cheaply as possible. Its a hotcam in there, nothing wild. If LS7's are def. the way to go, I'd like to know ASAP so I can order them and get them here.

Ah hell I should have just ordered them from Summit anyway...... Ended up being $129 after shipping, I didn't think anything of it, til I went onto Summit to order a rocker arm to replace the mangled one.
Guess I will pay for shipping now on two items. Its nice to know you can just order one rocker, at least they figure **** happens.
I got them from the Dealership bro when I built my new Engine.
And as far as replacing Lifters..unless I had a low-mileage one go out cause of a fluke, I would do them all if I know that there are some miles on them..

OK so I didn't have two collapse. I got the intake off today, I only have one that is screwed up. It didn't collapse though, it came apart! So what causes them to fall apart? Below is a picture, I hope that's all the parts that one would comprise of, I ran a magnet over the whole lifter valley a few times, so hopefully no metal succeeded in going where it shouldn't have.

I was told by a Comp Cams tech rep that setting the lifters when the engine is running, puts an undue amount of stress on the wire clips that hold the lifter together, when you back them up to the point where they just start to click. As you can see, yours is broken.
However, when I was discussing this with the CC guy, I asked why that would be a problem, as "old timers" like me have been setting the lifters like that ever since the small block Chevy was invented. I said to him, "I can't set them while the engine is running because your lifters inferior?" He didn't have an answer....

Well it was a stock lifter, and I didn't adjust them while they were running. Maybe Merv will come in here and say what he was winding these up to, apparently it didn't like spinning to 6500 a handful of times for me or something. I had them set at 3/4 turn.
When I do the rockers this next time I'm doing one full turn from zero lash. Someone not long ago stated that's what the factory service manual states, well that's what I'm doing then. I'm really getting pissed with all these valvetrain issues.

Not sure. If you run the LS7 lifter part number on gmpartsdirect it comes back as LS7 lifters, if you run the same part number on summit it brings up lifters for every motor size except the LS7's, so I had no idea if it was the same part or not. Supposedly the LS7's should survive higher rpm usage, but maybe they are the same part as current runs of LS1 lifters?? Maybe there is only one lifter being made now for all I know.

Exactly, I have been doing the same thing, adjusting lifters with the motor running for YEARS with no problems, Same as rods, cranks, Back in the day we just would build small blocks will all STOCK internals less cams and pistons (pop ups). we would spin them to 7200 + all day long.
Yet now everything is suppose to be built with better quality but everyone seems to be replacing Rods, Cranks for NA applications that I see completely un necessary. I think there is too much hype and advertisements that promotes people into buying all this after market parts when it is truly not needed. GM stuff is pretty stout as is. Look at the LS7, Hyper Pistons...Also just because you call a company like comp or whoever don't think that you are speaking to a true professional, Most are everyday people and not specialist in the field. When I want true professional advice I call a professional. I had some questions about a turbo build up, I called Kenny Dutwiler personally and spoke to him. Just do a lot of research and talk to people who KNOW what they are saying and not THINK they know...
