I decided I'm going to get just the catback, for now. Will I be able to do it at my friend's house, or does the stock exhaust require cutting?

cat-back is not difficult to install at all. It is a ton easier to just get a sawzaw and cut the old piping off though IMO i wouldnt even try to loosen the bolts and slip the piping out cause I can guaratee its heat welded in there pretty good. what cat back are u going with?

What's wrong with a cutout? That way for long trips or if you get sick of loud exhaust you can just cap it in 20 seconds??

I'll never pay for a catback.

Honestly, if you have some pride in your car and want it to sound totally mean, save up your money and do your exhaust all at once.

Full exhaust is more of a sound mod than anything when speaking of a bolt-on only car. You will notice a small gain with a tune but where the real difference will be is the noise it makes. It will be significantly meaner with headers, trust me.

Wait and do it all at once. If you do cat back now and then headers and y, you could run into problems taking that cat back apart to fit LT and Y. It will be worth it! Kooks LT and off road Y with GMMG!!!!!!!! Glad I waited!!!!!!!

The only prob with that is it might never get done if money is tight. Much easier to come up with 300-500 here and 3-5 there rather than throwning down 1000+ at the same time. I know when I was younger, I could never come up with that kind of cash at once!

I figure I'll just do the catback now, because I may not be able to afford the rest for a while. I'm not trying to impress anybody... I'm just tired of the stock exhaust.

I guess I'll have to be the first to do a real investigation with sound clips and pics. Wish me luck, I've made up my mind.

I did the ghetto thing and had my friend cut a piece out of the middle of my exhaust, lol. It sounds really good... almost identical to my friend's headers w/ X pipe true duals. Has anyone else done this? It's temporary until I get all my parts I need, but I have no time frame yet.

Hey OP,

I have a 93 Formula and was scouring multiple threads in relation to exhaust systems.
My opinion is that you should go with a Stainless Steel setup given the quality of parts, and from your post sounds like you will be keeping the car for a while given the cam job next year, that said...

You need Headers+Y-Pipe+Exhaust for the full setup.

I just purchased GMMG exhaust (now Madhammer) and will be going with Kooks headers + Kooks catted Y-Pipe once ive decided on the cam setup.

If you're keeping/upgrading your car do you really want to go with anything less than stainless?

By the way, that is a seriously sweet hood you have OP!
