For some reason the yoke didn't want to go in on mine. Was some minor rust that I have since sanded down and will try again.

I would just take your stock unit and have it rebalanced, or spend the money on a good one. The ls1 driveshaft is weaker than our stock unit. there is a thread on ltx tech about this.http://ltxtech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1321

True is might be a little weaker but unless your high hp car you shouldn't worry about it much...for the price (50-75$) its worth the $ to change. Plus you always have the stock for a backup.

replacing a factory steel driveshaft with a factory aluminum one is like replacing a 12 bolt rear end with a 10 bolt rear end.

doing either will get more hp at the wheels, but at what cost?

A broken driveshaft can not always be contained by a driveshaft safety loop.

With the mods in your sig you will be fine with the LS1 shaft...How often does the car see the track?

IMO it isn't worth it to rebalnce the stock shaft buy CM if your worried about breaking the LS1 shaft.

well yea it'll be fine with my mods now. but i will eventually build the motor and would like to go to the track if i ever get a chance. and a CM one is too expensive for me.

You can have a stock unit rebalanced for around 40.00 or so. It will be stronger than the ls1 and cost less. If you do not mod further and cannot find a local shop to rebalance your stock unit, then I would say the ls1 shaft will work fine.

Well, I would use an LS1 until that time and if you do a rear end then you'll need a new DS with it anyway..

but wouldn't the steel ds create more tq, because its heavier mass.. just like a stock fly vs a lightened one? heavier one helps create more low end tq...
