Default 1LE Drive Shaft

Anyone else have one, how tough are they?

I just bought one from a guy in the Classifieds section cause I wanted a back-up Aluminum Shaft incase my LS1 Shaft breaks.

The guy had it on a Car with a 12-Bolt under it, so luckily it came with the 1350 Conversion U-Joint already in it, so all I have to do is bolt it in.

The reason I ask is cause the DS itself is made by Spicer. It's totally different from the LS1 and factory Drive Shafts, it has External Clips for the U-Joints, not the ones that are held in there with the Plastic that is molded in it, and if you upgrade you have to melt them out.

The one I got has a brand new Yoke, and both U-Joints appear to be Spicer Joints, so that's cool, but I'm just wondering how tough they are.

I used to have one. It was smaller than the LS1 shaft but I didn't measure it. I pulled 1.601 short times on it and never broke it.

edit: Also some useful info. It didn't use the same universal joints as a stock steel driveshaft or LS1 shaft. They were smaller.

A buddy of mine has one on his Z28 and he's pushing in the mid 400's w/ lots of drag time and stalled launches. Hasn't caused any problems...

I haven't seen it yet in person, but I had it sent to my friends shop when I got it from the guy.

The GM Part Number on it is 10085375, it was originally for a 3rd Gen design, so I wonder if it's a 2.5" diameter like the stock Steel one.

That sounds like it. I had to look up a 3rd gen car to buy U joints for mine at the auto parts store. 2.5" sounds about right.
