What are some good mods for my 96 trans am. Not sure what to start with, Is it even worth beefing up? How much does a supercharger run for a LT1?

A V8 is always worth beefing up, but before you go building stroker motors and what not, start off with the basics(Intake and exhaust) and just let the motor breathe.
Get a cold air intake, a cutout or catback(whichever you prefer), headers, MAF ends, airfoil, etc. airfoil and maf ends wont give big gains, but you want to have all intake and exhuast components before doing internals so you get the most outta everything.

you can find an intake for anywhere from 200-300, and an catback from 300-900 depending on what brand. I'd suggest a Moroso CAI and a Hooker catback, but that's just me. There are also things known as "cutouts", which is basically a piece welded onto the exhaust system that allows you to run straight pipes whenever you want. Those are about 50-100 bucks.

A supercharger system can be had from 3-4000 dollars, but you'll have to invest in other items as well. If you want to get a lot of power out a blown setup, you'll need forged internals and pulley changes. Not to mention fuel and ignition system modifications.

My advice, after dealing with a blown car, would be to stay naturally aspirated with nitrous. If I had a brand new LT1 and the money to mod it, I'd do boltons, an LT4 hotcam, LT4 intake mani, hooker supercomps, and some nice ported heads.

Good luck!

cutout is typically 30 bux at most performance shops :-)

i wouldnt have said that, but im a huge fan of them...got 12 rwhp and 13 rwtq from mine on a stock car except for a CAI. Cost 30 bux to buy and 30 to install at the local muffler shop...best bang for the buck mod ever, if you can deal with the loud exhaust

Is the CAI worth the 200 dollars you pay for it? And what exactly does it do?
