what is the best timing set to run on a 97 lt1 with ewp and still use the crank position sensor

For the majority of us the stock timing chain is plenty strong...I have an EWP and still use the stock timing set. There's been guys in the 9s using stock timing sets.

motor has 50000 on it should i replace gears also

If you think the chain wears without the gears wearing, you are kidding yourself. No sense in replacing one without the others, IMHO.

+2..Replace them both with new OEM parts.

+3 on replacing the whole timing set with a stock replacement.
