Default Turndown on a Cutout

I know that this isn't something that you can normally see, but something that I'm doing.

I'm doing it becuase my car ran a tad rich and it blew soot all over the underside of the car and covered the Suspension and all of the area around the Cutout pretty much in soot. I'm also re-doing how the Cutout pipe is welded on to the Exhaust because the Muffler Shop that I went to to do it couldn't get the angle for it tight enough while it was on the Car, so now that it's off the Car I'm going to fix it and make it better.

I have a QT 3.5" Electric Cutout bolted on the car with a 3-Bolt Flange, so what I'm doing is taking a 3.5" 3-Bolt Flange & a 3.5" Turndown that I bought on Summit, and basically making a bolt-on Turndown.

This is what I bought..

I'm not using the whole Turndown, I'm cutting it to where it fits good and has a nice angle to it, but I'm trying to get it pointed down pretty much. Then bolting it on with the Electric Cutout inbetween the Flanges.

Any of you do anything like this?

I have put a turndown on a flange and just bolt it up when I open the cutout. The electric part is too expensive for me! LOL But yea it help keep things a little cleaner and directs the sound out a little more instead of it bouncing off the ground and floor board.

Well from what I figure and have been looking at, it will clear no prob. I think it will be kinda cool when it's done, something you don't normally see.

The electric ones aren't too bad, mine was $160..

Oh yea the butterfly should open without a problem. I don't see how it would catch on anything so you should be good there.

i have it on my car. and the only clearance issues are with the actual cutout and the ground. my turndown is only 3'' as well.
if you send me an email i will forward the few pics i have here at work.
and mine is a QTP electric cut out.

looks like a good plan

I have a turndown on my cutout too and ended up using the very end of one of these. I'm using the other one for the back of an ORY with a short section behind it.

I also made one of my own to tuck it up as much as possible (see attachment). Beside saving my underside from soot, it kept the passenger side of my car, especially by the doorsill, much cooler.

I did seem notice a slight change in tone after installing the turndown. Sounded better to me.
