cold startup problem...HELP

Default cold startup problem...HELP
Im posting this for a buddy of mine that has a 93 z28. When the car is cold and it is cold outside the car has a hard time starting. The tach acts crazy and the car sputters and backfires. Once the car gets warmed up it runs just fine. Any clues as to what this could be?

I would check the temp sensor on the WP (not the one on the driver's side head).

hows the battery and check all of your ground straps....one might be bad or corroded and needs replacement....

Battery is brand new, as well as a new fuel filter. The car had been sitting for a while if that makes a difference. He could not get it to start this morning. It turns over, but never started. It has an aftermarket coil on it also.

Can an autozone or place like that check them?

Temperature sensor, no, you'll have to just replace it and see.

ICM, yes, they "should" be able to test it, but for some reason, a lot of them don't have the right connection for it. Try out your luck.

they have to have the tester with all the pig tails on it, and yes they normally cant find it or it walked away from them some how LOL
