I took some jb weld and made a thin strip of it, then put it around the hole. Put the quarter in and smashed it down into the jb weld, causing it to squish up. Then I smoothed it out. Put some on the back side too.

I used what is called a Wilkie button, can be found at your local hardware store, looks way better that plugging it with coins or other unusual stuff...

Who cares what it looks like... it's all hidden once the engine is back together.

For one thing the button goes on from the outside, what "IF" the plug came off from the inside and happened to wrap around the chain..Who Cares...Go for it...

Well I'm not worried about it coming off and going around the chain b/c the old seal is still there and there's only an 11/16 hole. I'll be doing it here in about 30 mins. and then the wp goes back in and the oil pan comes out and gets cleaned. I might just get this thing running today

Also, is it recommended to take out the seal first or can I just put it on there flat?

I took the seal out and then grabbed a freeze plug and grinded it down until I could hammer it in. Then I pulled it out and used silicone and pounded it back in.

When was the last time it ran? It seems as though you have been working on it since I got my car back in early 2005 lol

Sounds good.

I've had my JB-Weld-and-a-quarter patch for 5 years.
