Default TB Question

Was wondering if anyone has ever removed the center section out of the 58mm throttle body? Is there a true purpose to this section?

Not really sure what you mean by center section.

I think what he's talking about is hollowing out the entire inside of the body itself.

No need for it really, 58mm is more then enough for most applications. LSx engines will have 90mm and such with the monoblade setup which is like what your talking about. Mainly comes down to intake design, and power output. Just because a 90mm works on a LSx doesnt mean a LT1 will benefit the same from it.

A 58mm TB will support A LOT of airflow, more than most people need. They make a monoblade TB for the LT1 as well, but it's mostly for boosted and other high hp applications. If you hollowed out your middle section of the TB, it would allow air to flow in as if the TB was open...redline idle

There used to be a monoblade model, but I haven't seen it around for a while.
Just supposition, but I guess if you could find the blade you could do it yourself. Personally, I would hate to f-up my BBK for an experiement.
I volunteer ss.slp.ls1. I'll even buy you a case of PBRB when you report the results (pics required, of course).

I was just trying to see what else has been done out their. I wasn't planning on hacking away just yet, but if someone else has and succeded I was thinking about it. My heads and manifold are ported/polished/and gasket matched, and i'm running 11:1 compression. I was hoping to get every ounce of power possible. That's until I can just change the jets, haha. Thanks for the info fellas.

Port yours to 52-58 or maybe look into a BBK. If you hack yours to heck I've got the stock T.B. you can replace it with

Yes sir, LT4 heads with 54 cc combustion chambers, LT4 manifold, Comp Cam 230/236 duration. Ported/Polished heads to the manifold. I have the 58mm Throttle body and was looking to modify it a bit. It boggles my mind with these LS1's and the 92mm and so on. I was wondering if a little porting work would make a difference.

Nice set up, don't touch the TB, it's not the limiting factor of your build.

I agree. (And I have that case of PBRB waiting in the wings. )

You have a good setup (H/C/I) if you have a CAI of some type and a free flowing exhaust.

I have a 97 WS6, which has the ram air, which I place a K&N filter in place of as well. I also have other minor mods, and am hoping that she turns around 400 at the wheels. Sounds possible?

Possible with a tune yea heh Less then possible with out full exhaust.

For 400hp, you could've stuck with the stock one for that range :\
