Default Cat-back Performance

Is the muffler the determining factor in how a catback performs?

Kind of,

The pipe size, bends, and the muffler its self determine how well a catback flows. I went with a magnaflow, it flows good, but it is just too mellow for my liking. I think a cutout will fix my problem though

+1. I like the way Magnaflows sound (Magnaflow > Flowmaster). Add an electric cutout for when you want to sound mean and have no restriction at all.

I like whatever SLP muffler is on mine, not a LoudMouth though as mine is the Single In Dual Out stock type.

When you get a cat-back setup it is generally consisting of better bends in the exhaust, along with a size increase for more flow. I'm not sure but I think the single cat exhaust flows 3" in and then 2.5" to the muffler. I think the dual cats are like 2" from the manifolds through the cats and Y into a 2.5". Someone will have to correct me on that though.

A cat-back with a bullet muffler is gonna breathe alittle better than chambered muffler.

Hmm, thanks for the input. Only reason I am asking is because I have developed an annoying rattle when my car is idling in drive (<1000rpms) in the muffler and am thinking about replacing it with either a magnaflow or hooker. I am pretty sure a piece of my cat brick broke off when I bottomed out a while back. That is assuming it will weld up with my existing setup which I think is flowmaster.

I called SLP and asked. They just needed my VIN and told it to me.

When did you call? Because everywhere I have seen they have no records of the LT1 WS6 cars.

Agreed. Hooker is where it's at.

It's cheap, tips look good, great sound. Nice and docile at idle, screams under throttle.

I called SLP a few months ago...maybe Oct '08? I don't remember exactly. When I called them you get an automated menu and one of the options was something about a SLP registry. I chose that option and the woman that answered just asked me for I think the last 8 or so numbers of my VIN and told me the month and build number for my car. Only took a few minutes.

Ok, I just called SLP again this morning at 732 349 2109 and at the menu choose '0' for customer service. I spoke to the lady again and she said that they don't have complete records for the WS6s only the firehawks; however, she looked up my VIN and said "Oh, we do have records for your car." Then she told me my build number.

So I would call them and maybe you're one of the lucky ones whose number is on file too. Good luck!
