Default Oil probs

ok well i bout the camaro for 2500 ...its a 93 z he said everyhting is fine he garentees...he said it just needs an oil pump...i took a chance and went on with the deal......so he described itas this...he was cruisin and kinda getting on it around town ...then he stoped for gas as he was pumping he seen his oil psi start to drop...says he didnt let it run on 0 PSI .....

What do you think is wrong where should i start.....could it be the pick up tube the gauge ...is the motor safe or trashed.....how can i be sure and if the gauge is bad how do i check if the pump is good or bad take off the valve cover?what to do is the ?

i would hook up a manual gauge and verify the pressure. similar thing happened to me a few years ago and it ended up being the sending unit.
