Default crank ssprocket install ?

i got my old one off and started installing my gmpp timing set and was wondering b4 i go pecking with a hammer do i need something to install it or what ... and i also wonder on the timing line up the dots and go wit it or do i need to find tdc.... this is all i like and i can put her back together and finish my top end put my springs , guide plates and push rods and rr's on

Well they deleted the one I responded to, so here goes again.
Get a 7/16" threaded rod. Get yourself a pipe or tube of some sort that will slip over the crank snout and sit flush against the crank sprocket. Use some washers and a nut to torque it down until the sprocket is seated. Make sure that the dot mark is facing out and is pointing in the right direction.

I find heating the gear with a torch to expand it works well...use gloves :-)

The factory manual shows a tool to hammer it on with (use a piece of pipe and a block of wood or whatever). Not a big deal. Put a little oil on it.

When you line up the dots together, you will be at #6 TDC. Dots lined up is how you do it.

Yeah...just tap it on gently after oiling. It will slip over the keyway no problem.
