Default Crankshaft

This post is mainly directed toward Gangly and the other LT1 experts...

How much do you guys think a forged Crank would cost, price and install? I think I've cracked mine balancing is way off... I know the price is around 1000-1500 but I have nowhere near the skill to install an internal part such as a crank, so I'll be paying a shop to do it... Thanks for the info

Depends on the crank you go with. How many miles are on your ride? If you have quite a few you can buy a shortblock/all forged internals for around 1500-2000 and put it in yourself this winter, just transfer over your existing heads, and other externals. Or a scat or cola crank will cost you around 5-800.00 and a shop will charge about 1500 to install

if you can find a crank out of an Impala SS, they are nodular iron and a little lighter. they will be cheaper, will free up a lil hp, and allow you to spin a lil higher and faster. If its a nitrous or power adder car though, you might want to steer clear.

i found a pretty kick *** company for kits and everything cranks,rods,pistons,rings,bearings for about $1400 + shipping 40-60 shipping fully forged 4340 eagle kits

if you are interested PM and i will let you know there web addy that way i dont get in trouble for trying to support them and not a sponser on here

The motor was just rebuilt with Speedpro forged pistons, bearings, crank, etc, for my Vortech FI, which is what's making me so angry that the crank might be cracked. There's about 2000 miles on the motor, you can check out more info on my link in my sig. I'm thinkin that it might be just the harmonic balancer, but I thought if the hb went usually there was something wrong with the crank too??? And the shitty shop that I brought it to to get the wires replaced (didn't wanna have to do that nightmare myself) sleeved them but for some reason didn't loom them, and another wire is melted I've been really agitated lately, I just try and keep in my mind that soon it'll be fixed and hopefully soon after I'll get all the suspension mods/aftercooler done and break into 11s... thanks for the info guys.

Problem is you can't just drop in the crank; well you shouldn't anyway. Hopefully the machine shop still has all your balancing specs, otherwise your going to have to re-balance which in all honesty I'd do anyway. GM has a standard stroke forged crank you can pick up although for your combo it's not worth it unnless you found a deal on one. Your not turning any rpms and your not making the kinda hp that warrants searching for a forged one. In my opinion ofcourse...

Have you nailed down that the balancer was the major player in the issue?

Not really, I'm going to school full time and working 35 hours per week, I honestly haven't even had time to pull the car out of the garage lately. Over the summer I was able to work on it daily if I wanted, but now I just don't have the time It really sucks paying a shop to do it, but I don't really have nay other choice right now. Thanks for all the help, guys.

Well, I dont know what kind of bduget your on, but GM sells the crank from the ZZ4 Crate 350, same stroke as stock, so need to clearance the block, but its forged. Brady runs one in his Twin turbo Z28 so its plenty strong.

Hey can I have some more info on the ZZ4 crank? Sounds pretty nifty, my Speed-Pro forged crank ran for 1200. What are the benefits of the ZZ4 to a normal forged crank? Any? Or is it cheaper? Thanks.
