Default Another evap question

My 97 has this canister:

and connected to it is this canister:

what does each one do? My 95 z28 only had the first one (one with the red plug). Why does my 97 have both?

Im planning on pulling both of them and putting some resistors in there.

The second one is the EVAP purge solenoid. You can yank them both out. That's what I did with my '97.

OBD-II requires the round vacuum switch (neither of those things are canisters). 1995 was OBD-I.
The vacuum switch monitors the presence of vacuum in the hose and reports this to the PCM. Basically, it is a watchdog to tell the PCM if the vacuum in the system is working properly.

thanks guys. Just pulled both of them out. I then tucked the main feed line (one of the line bundled with the fuel lines correct?), down in the front drivers side fender.

All i should need now is an inline filter to put on the end of the main feed line right?
