Default help

ripped the oil pan gasket under the timing cover it was rtv sealed onto there any way to fix this

You could try and use some RTV to seal it but I doubt it'll work, just depends on how bad it is. The only way to fix it right is to replace the oil pan gasket. What were you doing to rip it?

it has dripped for a while and as i was removing the cover during the cam install was trying to gently pry it of but the 2 tabs ripped right off

You need to do a whole oil pan gasket change. I did the same with a cam install years ago and tried to just patch it up with more RTV, never works and you will just leak oil all over the bottom of your engine compartment as you drive and it blows all back. Sucks but there isn't much choice.

Yea unfortunatly for you the oil pan is designed to go on after the timing cover is installed. I'm sure others have been able to save the gasket durring a cam swap, I'm not that lucky!

change the pan gasket dont use some silicone to try to fill the gap its only a few hours of work to drop the pan and replace the gasket

Yeah, you have to support the engine some how. For my buddy, we pulled the pins of the motor mounts, jacked up the engine, put square cut from 2x4's in between the motor mounts and the k-member and we were able to lower the pan enough to slip the old gasket out and shimmy the new one in place.
