Default My Trans AM needs to be faster!!!

I have 1 1994 Trans AM with an auto tranny. I am 16 years old and I am into v8s not those sport compacts like everyone else my age, and I am looking for some help... I put a ram-air hood and air-box on the car. I also have edelbrock headers that were ceramic coated, a hi-flow cat, and a borla cat-back system. I want to have the heads and intake ported and polished and get a new cam but don't have tons of $$$. Any suggestions on what to do about cheaps routes to go to get more power so I can tear up more sport compacts around here. Any suggestions would help leave a post or email me at nikeboy313@aol.com

Nitrous nitrous nitrous... You can get a cheap dry n20 kit from NOS or NX for around 400-600 dollars. I'm not a nitrous user, so I don't really know the details. But, you can also grab a Hotcam kit with the LT4 Cam and 1.6 Rocker arms for around the same price. Either one of those would bump your power up a good deal.

Good luck with everything

I'm in the same boat..a newbie with a 94 GT 'sept mines a 6 speed :-D. Anyways, id like some decent cheap mods too. I'm thinkin i could use headers, i've got a corsa catback and a custom ram air (picks up off the bottom). I really like nitrous but at the same time i don't want to blow my engine up. So the cam/rocker arms combo i'm thinkin might be the way to go. My only problem is actually putting the cam in...how long does it take/how well experienced should one be, what's all involved, etc. Thanks

Your engine won't blow up. Nitrous is a lot safer than a forced induction without forged internals. The LT1 can easily handle a 100-shot. If your really that nervous about it, drop the shot to 75.

LT1's can generally handle a 150 wet shot with no problems...just make sure your fuel pump can keep up if you have a heavily modified car.

I dunno why Im a little nervous, but a 16 year old barely old enough to drive owning an LT1 looking for nitrousand other go fast goodies just gets me a little uneasy. I can already see my insurance agent smiling as he sends a letter in the mail saying my rates are gonna go up even though I did nothing......no hard feelings nikeboy, just a thought

You guys really sure? I'm just so apprehensive, as my t/a is my daily driver. And she already has 120 thou on her. I'm really getting into the habit of not putting something on my car if i ever intend on upgrading it, because i don't want to lose the money from buying the cheaper part initially. My friend made a point of 2 stage nitrous, using his dry NOS to give him something off the line, and then a 200+ HP boost from a new NX system

Nitrous won't affect your daily driving at all. It's not like forced induction, because it's not always on. Nitrous is the cheapest and best way to get your car quicker in the least amount of time. Unless you've got a cheaply-built Honda 4banger, your motor will take the 100-125 shot in stride. Just make sure your fuel system is regulated well.

i have been using nitrous on my Trans am for 3 years, and lost nothing in n/a performance. car was daily driven for 2 years with the nitrous, and was a 150 shot for the majority of the 2 years. yes i had a new fuel pump, ignition etc.

Nitrous can be very reliable and a 100 shot is no problem at all for a daily driver.

and NX doesnt make dry systems,i believe hearing them quote "we will never build a dry system,it's not the best way to do it" (or something damn close to that effect)

I picked up 5mph in the 1/4 just by spraying a 75 wet shot after the 330' mark.
