That motor should pull to 6300 rpm. Nice numbers for a STOCK headed lt1. My buddies 306 car is only making 350/350!

Hey guys, thanks for the compliments and sorry about the late replies.
The motor was put togather extremly cheap i would say. I used a rebuild kit from Engine Tech. I also belive that there is some valve float which is one of the reasons i dynoed it. The car has always felt like it fell off at or before 6k which was confirmed on the dyno. I replaced the lifters with a set of ls2 lifters without any change. I perchased a set of new 1.6 full roller rockers (instead of just roller tip) and also some new 918 spring to replace my old ones. Im not real sure why the motor has picked up so much lately, Its somewhere around 20k miles on it.
The mph on nitrous its shocking to me but i have heard that the power under the curve is what helps make some lower powered cars run so good. Let me know if there are any more questions, I have to say im proud of how it runs.

Definitely a strong motor.

I believe the big drop of is from early shut down while the dyno was still sampling data. If you look it looks as if it loses RPM like he let off the throttle early.

I agree - big fan of the baby cams on street driven LT1s. I will gladly give up 15-20hp peak for more tq all over and more average hp.

i was there at the dyno i am pretty damn sure he didnt let off any. we wanted to see what it is making before we change things so no point in letting off early.valve float ftl.

man thats pretty impressive, im wondering if it wouldn't make a couple extra ponies with better springs and what not to stop the valve float?

Once the valves are under control he will get maybe 2-5 more HP from looking at the chart. He was just a bit under peak from what I see. The good thing is he will then be able to carry the power to 6.3k RPM or so. There is no way in Hell he will do now with the float.

OP.
What springs are you running? I can shed a lot of light on fixing this problem. It rove me nugging futz and I know what works and what dont.

He posted saying that he will be putting in some 918's. That will cure his valve float.

When I was running my 224/230 ~.603/.607 cam I had valve float at 6K RPM with the PAC 1218's which are very similar to the 918's. I am currently running a similar cam with .020" less lift with Patriot gold extremes and there is not even a hint of float.

I would think that some 918's would work with the CC503 since the lift is not rear big and the ramps are not real fast, but I would reccomend the OP go with some Patriot gold's and rest assured that the problem will NEVER happen again plus you have a far more durable spring.

Clearly I could not get any beehive to control my valves with my cam. I used PAC 1218's, PSI LS1 beehives, Manley beehives and onlt the Manleys worked but I found 6 had busted in less than 500 miles. I think that the fact that any given LT1 has the heavier 11/32" valves and aftermarket high performance cams makes beehives a bad choice for a spring and risks running into valve float.

Even with 1.6 rr's the lift of a CC503 is only .535"/.544". Well within the range for 918's. And as you said, the lobes aren't too aggressive. Not saying that Patriot Gold's aren't great, but he already has 918's and they are more than capable of handling it.

I might be wrong, but I'm reading it as he's replacing the the old 918s with some new ones. I too would suggest some Patriot Golds. BTDT.
