Catch can?????

Catch can????? When I bought the car, it had a catch can already installed on it. I am running the LE2 setup so it has a pretty healthy cam in it.
I had to remove the catch can to mount my standalone and noticed it was empty.
I have had the car for over a year now (it will be 2 in November) and have NEVER emptied the can or noticed any oil in the can.
What exactly does the catch can do, and if it doesn't have oil in it, do I really even need it?

It catches oil vapor from the PCV line that would otherwise get dumped right into your throttle body, and thus your engine. Ever wonder WHY the TB, intake, etc are so damn nasty and gunked up? 
(TB is due to the Pass side valve cover PCV valve)
Did someone do a PCV delete on yours (driver side, mid intake manifold is where it would be)? Here's where it'd be.

My catch can is just spliced into that line right there.
So basically, if you took the line coming off the intake under the throttle body, went to one side of the catch can, then came from the other side of the catch can and went to the PCV on the drivers side of the intake. That's how mine is set up.
But like I said, I have NEVER found oil or anything in the catch can.
So.....what should I do? lol

Wonder if there's any vacuum at the port on the intake for the PCV to draw in crank case air. When it's running, pull the line off the catch can that runs to the port under the TB and put your thumb over the line to see if there's vacuum. If not, that'd be why it's not 'catching' anything.
