Default 1.6 RR question

So I just ordered some 1.6 Roller Rockers the other day and I have a very newbish question. I am running the stock cam because of budget issues, and i was wondering if I need to run a different size push rod with the new roller rockers? heads are stock aswell. Any and all feedback is welcome and appriciated. Thanks.

You're fine with the stock pushrod length. You might consider getting hardened pushrods though. You will also have to upgrade your springs. LT4 springs will work well and they are cheap.

You can find a set of LT4 springs for ~50 shipped. Keep your eyes peeled in the classifieds section. And yes, you NEED them.

I think ZZ4 springs are basically LT4 springs, and they can be had dirt cheap off eBay.

Also, I was under the impression that for 1.6's you don't necessarily need to upgrade the springs, but it'd be a very wise move to do. A cam though is when you for sure need to.

just trying to see if it would be alright to run on the stock springs for a month, I leave for a 14 month tour to Iraq in a month from today. After I get back the car will be completly reborn into a straight beast

IMO I'd do it right the first time and just replace the springs.

If you are on a budget that is all the more reason to replace the springs. It means you cannot afford a repair if a spring breaks, and does anything from something minor like jamming the valve stem and ruining that rocker arm to something catastrophic like droping a valve into the cylinder and ruining pretty much everything. Think screwdriver in a blender.

...Wait till you have the extra 50 bucks or so and change the springs!

Yeah man, Im probably one of the cheapest members on here and would reccomend switching the springs. 50 bucks isnt much when adding performance parts to your car. You could probably get by and run them for a month but I wouldnt turn the motor hard and float the valves and risk breaking a spring.
