I'm tossing around the idea of hacking up an LS1 box to use for an airbox on my turbos. I've got a Ram Air hood ordered, so I won't start anything until it's here (4-5 weeks).
man, i had a bunch of **** come up, and never did have a chance. I will try and get sumthin going soon, but not making any promises. I am finding complete airboxes for about $30 if anyone wants to try it tho. Mainly u just have to drill new holes for the radiator support, then everything else falls into place.
i want to make a cai...making the pipe go the same way as the stock...remove the stock box....and put the pipe to hit the bottom piece...cover the any opening...and have the cone filter at the bottom...do ya think that will be a good set up...this is the reason i want to wait and see i a result from the ram air set up ....so i can then compare it to my ghetto style kit.
many LS1 guys run the same type of use u see on a clothes dryer from the holes in their air damn (camaros), up to the airbox...you could set sumthin up like that if u wanted, or just create a "scoop" on the splash guard to force air in.

Like I said, I'll try and get sumthin going soon.

my magazine just came in (high-tech) they showed this iroc using a 4 in/3.5 in exhaust pipe reducer and was then just bent to an oval shape...it look pretty clean and safe...just thought i let ya know...8.00 bucks to buy.
I have a 97 Z28 and attempted to put an LS1 airbox on it with the stock 93-97 nose. It wouldn't clear the stock hood - you would defintely need an ultra-Z or cowl type hood. I have swapped over to the 98-02 nose, and (obviously) clearance is no problem. The only problem then is finding rubber hosing big enough to accomodate the LT1 throttle body yet still conform to the MAF. I ended up using a size 3 rubber work boot to accomplish this. So far, the rubber seems to be taking the heat / abuse. I'll send pix if interested.
I own a 97 Z28 and attempted to use an LS1 style air box on it. It will not clear the stock hood. It may clear an ultra-Z or cowl style hood, I can't speak to that. When I converted over to the 98-02 style front clip, I used the LS1 airbox (obviously clearance wasn't an issue then). The problem with this is finding rubber tubing to connect the MAF and the throttle body. I accomplished this by butchering a size 3 rubber work boot I bought at Walmart. So far, it seems to be taking the heat / abuse. I can send pix if interested.
