Default Comp 26918-16 or pac 1218-16

Are these the right springs? They say they are for LS1.

Also which one would you guys pick?

Going on 1.6RR's and stock cam for now.

Will be on a bumpstick around .570 eventually.

Thanks

PAC is a good company and the now revised 918's have done every well. I had ran older style 918's on a cam that was 224/224 "605/605 @ 110 in my 383 LT1, and now run the newer ones on a 228/230 cam that is int he 570's @ 112 LSA.

I think there is a list of batch #'s for the springs that had issues from comp, id look for that. The batch # will be on the box when you get it.

PAC use to make the 918's for Comp Cams but then Comp had a company down in Mexico make them instead, my guess would be cheaper labor. Anyhow, they had all kinds of issues but I believe they are fine now. I run the PAC 1518's which are the 1218's but nitrided for extra strength and have a .650" max lift instead of a .600" and they are awesome. My vote goes towards the PAC's.

And yes, they will work for an LT1.

those springs and most "aftermarket performance" springs require a 1.8" installed height. Stock is 1.7". If your spring pockets have not been machined down that a lower installed height will raise the seat & open pressure and cause coil bind to occur before the "spec" if installed at 1.8".

Some go with the 15's vs the 18's in this situation...

and on a AL head you do want to use a spring locator

Thanks guys.

So if I plan on .570 lift down the road on un machined heads would that push the comp springs too far?

I found a deal on a set of those

if the spring coil bind is .600 than a cam of .570 on a spring now set at 1.7 "should" be Ok but close. if the spring has a .650 spec doubt there would be any problem

many run the 1.8" springs on non machined heads...not my choice but many do

The redesigned spring is nitrited and silver, the problem springs had a blue stripe, in that case call Compcams.

Are these new springs you are buying or used? The bad batch of the Comps was a while back and everything out there now should be the new batch. I'm running the 26918 on my set up.

I have a set of 26918 springs if you are interested. They are the updated ones that are good to .625 lift. Brand new in the box never run. If you are intrested you can PM me. I have the titanium retainers but they are for LS1 valves. let me know. Thanks
BTW who ever said these are only good to .570 lift is wrong. Their VTG is off or something else is wrong. They are well manufactured springs

All you have to do is run a +.050" lock and that solves that problem. When I ran 918's my installed height was ~1.78" unshimmed. I have no idea where you got the idea you have to machine the heads to get the proper installed height on aftermarket springs.

i havent had a problem with my 918's ive run them for afew thousand miles with 1.6 rockers on a stock cam and they held up great. im reuseing them with a LE 223/230 112 cam with comp ultra gold rockers. they should hold up fine. patriot does make a set of springs tho that are very good for a reasonable price

You couldn't pay me to put 918's on my car, here's my experience with them...

98 camaro, SMALL cam, they floated so much within 4000 miles they let the valves/pistons barely touch. I switched to patriot golds!

2006 TBSS, small cam, spring broke, lucky caught it before it dropped the valve, these springs came new with my custom cam I ordered so I ran them.

1996 Formula - cc306 cam, spring broke, dropped valve, only 15 miles on the springs. These springs were brand new and on the heads when I got them from my very good friend. Since we didn't have the box anymore or batch #, comp said they couldn't do anything about it.

I'll never run them again on any of my cars that is for sure.
