Default cooling problems

95 lt1. When driving the temp gauge just keeps going up and will level off at about a few ticks before the 260 mark after about 20min. Got a brand new radiator, Air dam is ok, running a 160 thermostat and the car has been tuned to kick the fans on earlier. If you let the car sit at idle it won't get over the 170-180mark. What else should I check?

is there any blockage under where the air filter box is or on the front near the grille? if you arent getting air to the rad, it wont cool efficiently and the hot water will go thru and back

that seems funny though. if you are at idle and its fine then fans come on and thermostat opens and closes... these cars do run hot and especially during the summer they can get close to 3/4ths the gauge or closer, like 230s or so.

I'd flush your system and bleed it properly upon refill. I'd also do a pressure test to see if you have any leaks.

been pressure tested and no leaks. Starting to think it's a bad sensor. Is that possible? Gauge went into the red today and pulled over to check. Not boiling over or anything. Can headers effect the sensor? The wire to it looks ok.

I would replace your sensor in the DS head, mine went to hell, I thought it was overheating went through the fan diagram thinking that they were not working once I verified that I let the car heat up then shut it off, CAREFULLY removed the radiator cap and stuck a long thermometer for a turkey fryer in there and it was reading 170 and opposed to the 220 my gauge said. Replaced the sensor and what do you know...fixed
