Default what plugs should i go with?

I have a bolt on 1993 trans am with lt's cai, tune, new opti, wires, and may too many parts to list. I went with ngk tr6 plugs that came with my msd wires for 110. Iv been told they are too cold and are used for nitrous guys. Should i go with a tr55 instead? What should i gap them at?

I run some Autolite 104's which are equivalent to the TR6's but that is because my combustion chamber temps are so high with my heads and everything. Before I touched my heads I had always ran the NGK TR55's with great success and would highly recommend them.

You could check your owners manual but if I recall correctly the factory recommended gap is .50.

factory gap is .50, but I thought the tr55's should be gapped down .05 from stock since they are not platinum.

Make sure you go with stock gap (.050) like others have said. No problems with the platinum autolites and now I have irridium autolites and they work well too. I picked up a set of irridium autoilites for $45 which is about $15 less than ngk and they are already to the correct gap.

I don't know about others, but my car seems to like the TR6s gapped at 35, whether it's on the bottle or not.

Use the tr55s ! I'm confused about the spark plug gap...I have 2 different repair manuals and they recommend two different gaps....0.35 & 0.50. Which one for modified engines?...my guess would be lower than .50 but higher than .35 or does it matter?

My 1995 Factory manual says spark plug gap should be 1.27mm (0.050") for the 5.7L (VIN P) engine. I would guess running nitrous or a higher compression engine would require a smaller gap 0.035".

correct me if I am mistaken, but isn't the .050 gap specification for platinum plugs? And If you switch to convetional copper core plugs, then don't you have to gap them down a bit?

Yes you are correct, platinum plugs were installed from the factory and that is what the service manual is referring to. I am not sure on your second statement though, I have seen 0.050 for all plugs. I don't know much about changing the gap for copper plugs.

With your setup I would do .35. I was recommended by a very reputable sponsor on here and a local shop to run a .35 gap with my car.

I agree, TR6s gapped at .035" are great for a bolt-on LT1, especially if your into the throttle alot or run more timing, mine ran great with these plugs on a N2o tune with timing pulled under WOT, so if you have bolt-ons & a perf. tune, this is the plug i would use, my 2 cents.

IF you decise to run the TR55s, gap them at .050"

Just remember widening the gap of the plug isn't always the best route to go and may hinder performance, unless your ignition system is up to the task then a bit of a lower gap is preferable. Excessive gap with puts a strain on the ignition system...

Ok so what would happen if i gapped my tr6's at .050? Would it run like **** at low rpm's and possably even run lean? I know it probubly wouldent run lean, but maby run like ****? I ask because mine runs really bad and is supposably running lean. I think the guys that told me its running lean are wrong, so does ion at mad z28. I think the problem is plugs, wires, or opti. I just know im running the tr6 at .050 and thats not right for a mild bolt on car. But it does seem to be ok at wot.
