Camshaft dowel problem.
End play is good
turns free
gear alignment is good
What's the deal?
Should I just cut off the dowel or is something wrong with the part?
Thanks in advance!

I don't have it in front of me, but the timing gear dowel goes through the cover into the opti?
Assebly order:
Camshaft > face plate > timing gear > camshaft bolts > and the timing cover? am i missing something after the cam bolts and before the cover maybe or does the opti go on next?

Now if you are trying to use a non vented opti timing cover with a longer dowel cam meant for a vented opti, then I can see you having issues (scroll down to the pics of the different timing covers):

You guys are killing me here. All aftermarket cams come with the dowel pin longer for the vented-opti's which he CLEARLY does not have. Take a ball-peen hammer and give the dowel 1 or 2 small taps. It will go into the cam further and cure all of your timing cover woes. If it is a factory cam you can either cut it with a dremel or replace it with a shorter dowel. Cutting it will be easier to do. The pin is 100% useless on a non-vented opti, it simply goes into a big hole on the timing gear so you get the cam aligned correctly, timing wise.
