Default 95 TA...15.4@90mph!!??!?!?!

ok. friend of mine has a 95 TA, 90k miles, a4, all stock with an exhaust cutout and an air intake. heres the story:

The car used to have an sts rearmount on it..blew a ringland on the stock motor. Had the motor rebuilt with forged pistons and was SUPPOSED to have ported heads and a small cam, but the backyard hilljack who did the work put the STOCK heads and STOCK cam. So after running with the turbo at about 4psi he pulled the turbokit off and it is just stock now. Ever since he had the motor rebuilt the car hasnt been running 100% for the most part. He had a mailorder tune done after the turbo was taken off. The car has no power above 4k rpm, and ran 15.4@90, when before the motor was redone all stock it ran 13.8@100. any ideas?

I'd perform a compression and leakdown test to access the health of the engine.
Any codes?
From there I would check the plugs & wires.
Clean the MAF.
Test the o2's with a scanner.
How's the fuel pressure?

Hilljack probably jewed the motor all up.

ss gave u some good things to start out with.

How do u know the pistons are stock? Maybe it is lower compression... That would kill the power

If it's built for a turbo but it doesn't have a turbo that's what they call a low compression turd.

Check out all of these, but I'd be leaning more towards one of those two.

It could be a lower compression engine, but I doubt it would run that slow even with 9:1 compression, you're about a second and a half off. But then again if it depends what it is tuned for and what is actually in there.

What about the valve spirngs are they in decent shape?
