Pushrod problem Help!!
Pushrod problem Help!! i rebuilt my engine and my engine builder said that my 7.200" hardened pushrods would work fine with my set up. well today i decided to check and see how correct the geometry is on my rocker arms. i i had checked it against the pushrods and it was like this
past half more towards the exhaust. so i knew that my pushrods were to long. i pulled out my comp cams adjustable pushrod tool. i thought "ok ill just lower it until its 1/3 the way on the intake side. but when i put my tool in there i found that if i went any lower then .100" from 7.200" that the rocker would bottom out on the stud
but at 7.100" the placement of the roller tip was like this
just before half towards the intake. closer to where its supposed to be but not 100%.
my question is to everyone is would i be ok running the 7.100" pushrods ? if its still to long then ill be forced to get not only new pushrods but new rockers aswell but im prepared for the bad news. thanks guys

use that tool.and place the rocker on the stud and mark the top of the valve like how i did and get it to about 1/3 of the way on the valve stem towards the intake
does anybody have any advice for me ?

I just did the same thing yesterday. I have the same rockers as you. The head shop also had to use .100 longer valves with my patriot springs. I ran the motor a few times with the stock 7.2 pushrods. The wear pattern was towords the exhaust side but still liveable. I just ordered 7.1's and they should be here today. I think i'll be fine with 7.1 and i think you will be too.
You need to use a solid lifter or a weak valve spring to check length. Doing it the way you are is probably completely collapsing the lifter so you aren't getting a good reading on length.
^^^+1. You can make your own solid lifter using an old lifter. Remove the clip and remove the cup, fill the lifter with washers and replace the cup and clip, you know have a solid lifter.
thanks guys i think the 7.100" pushrods will be good. i didnt tighten down the poly lock just till it gave alittle bit of pressure on the pushrod. and i had pumped it up jsut before
Don't change the pushrod length until you measure the pushrod length using an adj push rod AND either a solid lifter or a test spring. For all you know you could have the perfect pushrod length now.
