the unvented optis are the ones that need to have the OEM colored cap. They seem to be iffy on grammer, and sometimes make it seem as the vented ones they sell have tan caps.

The vented ('95-'97) Delphi opti's with the dark gray, semi-transparent caps (where you can see the terminals) are OEM Delphi opti's, not knock offs.

That's sounds right to me. It's Delphi. I don't know who started questioning their products. Sounds more like user error to me...

I started this tread to see if others were having issues with there optis from them, like i've had. Not get retarded responses like that.
Both of the ones that i have gotten from them have been yellow cap ones and both have gone out the same way. I'm going to replace the opti harness this time as this is the only thing thats not been replaced. There is nothing visually wrong with it but its the oem one. Thanks for the responses guys.

I will second the poster who said to immediately open a new opti and put some thread locker on the rotor screws.

My last OEM Opti had one come loose and it resulted in a backfire (when the spark glanced off the loose screw that was bouncing around in there) that snapped a rocker arm stud! When I inspected the stock screws, they had a little bit of dark orange sealant on them even. Evidently it didn't do much good.

Running an MSD now (I still put loctite on the screws) and no problems so far.

Not thread locking the rotor screws = user misinformed = user error (from my viewpoint). Wasn't trying to personally offend anyone. What I would have done is open up the opti after it failed, inspect it, and try to pinpoint the problem. Any new opti should be opened to thread lock the rotor screws. You can even add some silicone sealant to ensure that no moisture gets in.

Both that have had the rotor screws thread locked and both had silicone on to help seal them up. They still look new when they were opened up to so i dont know what the deal with them. Just a FYI last the last one i sent back to THEPARTSLADI, they almost did not take it back because they could tell i had put sealant around the outside of it. They tried telling me that that was the reason it failed...right, after a week of arguing the sent me another one.

I bought one from them, no problems at all.

Also you need to remember, optisparks dont like to rev, thats why they died when the ls1 came along.
