Default Opti got wet, now what???

Driving home last night in the rain, went through a huge puddle and think I got the opti wet, ran like **** the rest of the way home (about 15 miles) mainly at idle and acceleration, making a popping sound when given gas. Is my opti shot (msd one) or will it dry out?

Well......... it should dry out in due time, but are you sure it is the Opti and not plug wires or something of that nature? I have seen many good optis changed because the car needed plugs or wires!

Good luck!!!

actually spray a little WD40 in the weep hole . . . . this will evaporate very quickly and will help prevent any corrosion on the terrminals!

This is what WD40 was invented for in 1953 (displace water on machinary that was facilitated with rockets)

Good Luck

I can't say that I reccomend that, WD40 is flammable. If you let it sit for several days for it to evaporate, you may be alright. I have seen one optispark blow up because of the WD40 trick!!!

Bad wires will do that, too. Mine were so bad at one point, I couldn't even drive it in the rain. Got under it one night in the dark and it looked like a christmas tree all around the opti!

I checked the wires, but this happened all of a sudden, literally a couple minutes after driving through a huge puddle. I would think the wires wouldnt cause a bad miss like this. Ive had a burnt wire and its not idling like that.

yah, just got in from the garage, drove it around the block, ran fine for about 3-4 minutes and then it was downhill from there.

I even sprayed a light mist on the wires and it was suddenly the 4th of July. Cheap *** new wires.

Went with MSD's and no worries since.

The coil is stock...

Is there a way to test these without throwing parts on it. I literally just ordered Drag Radials and SFCs an hour before this happened, so im broke for a couple weeks lol

Im gonna try and drive it to work tomorrow (60 mile round trip) so if it is water hopefully it will dry up. if not guess the problem is elsewhere

Any codes thrown? If you can get ahold of something like All Data, or some kind of software like that, it'll have different tests you can do to test your ignition..Or do a quick search on here?

Whenever my optie was giving me hell and it got wet, it would i guess dry out pretty quick because it could get wet and may 2 hours later, and if not the next day for sure.. Would run fine

Mine did the same thing. It got wet so I let it dry and it was fine the next day but now it does this every time it rains at all. So im going to do cap and rotor.

That is why I got rid of my opti setup. Never had it actually act up in the rain, but I had to walk several times for other opti problems, didn't need to worry about it raining too

well drove it today, first 20 minutes of driving it was stumbling and popping on acceleration. would take me 30 seconds to get up to 45 mph, but it gradually got better only missing slightly on acceleration. then on the 30 mile trip home it was just a slight hesitation every now and then, so i think the opti just got moisture in it and is slowly drying up.

Now is there any way to prevent this from happening next time i get caught in rain?
