Default damn old ladies.. brakes

So I'm driving along the other day cruising at 45mph and this jackass old lady in a Buick Lucerne pulls out RIGHT IN FRONT of me so I SLAM on my brakes... Thankfully for her sorry *** I missed her but she sure wasn't too talkative when I pulled up next to her at the next stoplight.

Heard a loud bang from the rear and went back there to look what was up at a Burger King and noticed my brake pad was missing on the passenger rear and it had SCRATCHED the hell out of the rotor... FML!!!

Thought I'd post my frustration.. does this **** normally happen? I thought taking off a brake pad was practically impossible lol

Sounds like you F'd up on your last brake job. (Or someone else)

Maybe it was the hard braking that finally knocked it loose. Make sure everything's tight when you patch her up

Previous owner's deed.. Just like the attempting window motor fix that resulting in the frame of the window plate being messed up and I had to custom fab a new one so my window wouldn't be sitting back and leaving a small crack open (fun for car washes )

I wasn't too happy though.. Don't really have the money to upgrade but will atleast get er fixed

How do you mess up a brake job? Seriously the pad slides into the caliper and shouldn't move at all.

Maybe he put the wrong pads on or didn't tighten the caliper enough. I would say this is rather rare indeed, you must have luck like mine.

I prefer to call them "Boomin' Grannies"

Sucks man...there are a lot of elderly people on the road that need to have their license's revoked.

pads break more often than you would ever think. Iv seen it quite a few times actually. Even happened to me in my 1989 oldsmobile 98 lol. That **** grabbed the rotor and locked the wheel up like crazy! It was the front too.

Pissed me off because I lack the patience to work on my car much.. Lol but got some new nicer rotors (I'm on a huge budget) and some ceramic brake pads for the rears... Still need the fronts but money will only allow a bit at a time

Yea, I've seen that happen before too. Mostly with cheap pads or high heat.

To the OP, rear brakes is literally like a 5 min job, requires little patience lol.

yeah, until you get the pads, get back, and theyre the wrong part in the right box. then you go back and get the right ones in the right box, come back, and the caliper piston is !@#$ing frozen, so you gotta go back and buy a new caliper.

thats what happened to me when i had to do my rear brakes haha

I'm sure im just saying something you already know, but if the gouge isnt too deep you can just get the rears turned and buy new pads. That would be good to your budget.
