4L60E, CC502, no tune...

4L60E, CC502, no tune... I'm a die hard manual transmission guy, both of my Camaro's have T56's in them. So for A4 questions, I figured I'd ask here.
I am going to be swapping a LT1/4L60E into my buddy's '97 Z28 that's not running right now. The engine will have a CC502 cam, LT headers, and exhaust. This will be going through a stock stall and stock 4L60E.
He doesn't have the funds to get a mail order tune as of yet (he's unemployed).
I know that untuned he shouldn't be beating on it, but will he be able to drive it at all without damaging his trans?

Running without a tune won't hurt the trans, if anything it would be easier than having it tuned b/c it will be making less power. Its not like you changed gearing and shift points and what not.
