engine lost oil pressure found culprit
 
ok so 2 weeks ago my engine lost oil pressure and overheated.

Well i finally got around to tearing it out and down and found that my crank is fried spun bearings left and right.

Im now looking at the eagle stock stroke crank cast steel just wondering if anyone knows the limit horsepower wise of this crank?

Also if anyone knows the limit of stock rods horsepwer wise? ( i treid searching but was unsecessful)

the plan is a 355 rebuild upwards of 550 on juice

I would go the other way around.. Eagle Rods and a stock Crank. The stock one can hold out fairly well, expecially if you get it balanced.

What about the SCAT forged 4340 rods? i feel they would hold more being forged 4340 and a stock crank is good thats good to know thanks

Stock crank is stronger than a chinese cast one.

RPMs is what kills stock rods, not HP. At that is is most likely the stock rodbolts that are the cause of failure not the rod themselves. Piston weight plays into rpm limits and many cheap pistons will weigh more than stock.

Did it spin mains?? If so you might be better off just buying a junkyard shortblock and lightly refreshing it rather than putting more money into a bunch of chinese junk.

It is NOT cheap to equal or better the stock shortblock quality. Absolutely can be done, but not with a $700 rotating assembly.

lol is Eagle considered "chinese junk" or not. and trust me i understand it will take more then 700 dollars. one main was spun and 4 rods were spun.

I would go with a Stock Crank(different one if need be), Eagle Forged Rods and forged Pistons instead of the stock howdidyoucrackit's. Then get it balanced and you will have a decent setup for spray.

I don't what the "Chinese Junk" is referring to.. I was talking about Forged stuff.

yea thats what im leaning towards thanks. where are stock cranks available from mines is prety messed up and might not be worth turning.

He was talking about a CAST chinese crank. You actually think those are good? I am sure we can round up some pics of how NOT good they are.

The Eagle forged often need machining before installation making them less of a bargain than people think they are. They will last IF they are dimensionally correct. The chinese rods are also WELL known for quickly going out of round with torque cycles, why not spend that $100 on better rods instead of reconditioning NEW ones? Eagle is frequently hard to balance too, again why not spend the money on better parts up front.

Many people are happy to "save" $200 upfront and spend $400+ to make it right afterwards:confused:. I am not one of those guys.

a stock crank, a good piston set to fit your needs and a compstar rod is a good set-up....
But eagle rod will work too, alot of stuff will work....most of it is in your builder. Your honestly better letting a good builder pics the parts and just pay the bill instead of dicking around and getting advice from people who have maybe build one engine online. Let a pro do it

I would get a Scat standard weight 4340 crank, Scat 6" Procomp 4340 forged rods and the forged piston of your choice, get it balanced then you should be good to go.
