Default Another Opti or Jumped Timing?

--UPDATE--

Ok I did a few more tests today;
1) I have spark at the coil to Opti
2) I have no spark at the plugs. I used the same tester and it worked at the coil but I was getting no spark at the plugs.

Now here is where its weird, the car is TRYING to start and its back firing but I have no spark on 2 plugs I test (Drivers side rear 2)

I am not sure what to make of this, Obviously the ICM and Coil are fine what do you guys think? Still a bad Opti and its just firing on some cylinders enough to make it back fire loudly or something else?

------------

Alright guys I am trying to figure out what happened.

Car is the one in my Sig, I did a dig pull 1st gear 6500, 2nd 6000 and got a big bang car shut off. When I tried to restart it nothing, it seems to try, then when giving it gas it will back fire what sounds to be through the intake almost.

I am leaking nothing, My Wideband was reading the fuel was good.

I have a Dynaspark Opti, I am looking up the warranty now but this would be the 3rd Opti in 3 months. The first to it killed AC Delco's blowing the rotor apart inside the Cap.

However since it just died and never restarted those other times I think its something else.

I will check the ICM and Coil just for the hell of it... but I think it seems like a timing issue... which makes me cringe that means the heads are probably holding bent valves... I just hope the pistons are ok... The motor has less than 19000 on it so this is more than a little upsetting.

Thoughts are greatly appreciated. I will be setting a plan and pulling it apart tomorrow.

Are you using a vented or unvented opti? What is the cam dowel pin length?

Vented Gen II Dynaspark and dowel length is unknown I did not build this motor I bought the car for the motor and just decided not to hassle with another motor swap as a tranny swap was easier.

If your opti is off, measure and report back.
What timing set are you using?

I think it might be worth pulling off a valve cover to have a look.

EDIT: nevermind, I see your update. Sounds like you detached your rotor from the base of the opti. Did you thread lock the rotor screws? If your cam dowel pin length is off, you'll keep destroying rotors until you get it right.

Its a Dynaspark I did not touch the inside they seal it and void the warranty if you open it, not to mention they use some really strange screws.

I will pull it now though, I did not want to pull it before I confirmed it was not the ICM or Coil. Doubtful but hell why not check.

Ok took longer than normal but I have the opti off, the crank pulley refused to come off.

However when I spin the Opti it gets stuck so its def another Opti failure of the Rotor shattering.

SRJ whats the best way to measure that dowel pin... its rather short....

Do you have a caliper?

Either way you'd have an issue...

1 cm ~ .394"

A vented opti cam dowel pin length needs to be ~.620"-.630" long.

Same thing happened on my lt1 and changed plugs, opti, fuel pump, and coil but no start, and just backfired.. Turned out the timing chain jumped a tooth. Hope that's some help, pm me if you have any questions.

But if its too short it should not be causing Rotor death right? I was worried it was too long.

Not sure why I did not get a message this thread got responses but I can not see how this pin could be any longer, if it were the Opti would not be able to sit flush.

I need to get a proper reading for you.

Hopefully I will hear from Dynaspark soon... I am sitting on the fence on if I should buy an LTCC or not.

Rickkiller did you have any internal damage when that happend? I am thinking about converting to a SBC double roller since I am running an Electric Water Pump now. I think I can if I remove that I have to go read up on it again.

Dynaspark told me the rotor shattered just as I thought myself.

THey mentioned the Gen 3 and I have a set of coil packs with LTx mounting brackets but I am not sure I want that.... Mainly the 400 expense at a 2 week wait time.

How can the Opti be this big of a problem? I am not in the range of a build that I think would require anything more than an MSD or Jacob's Box for that extra power.
