Default diff?

Ok so the other day I noticed that the front seal on my diff is leaking. I believe its the pinion seal. I want to rebuild it with new gears anyways. The car is a M6 with the stock 3.42s. I WILL be doing the LE2 swap asap. I will be using the (largest emissions friendly cam) 223/230. What gears would be best to have the proper powerban. It will still be a semi-DD car. Just wondering what you guys think?

I mean, if you plan on going to the track often enough... 4.11s. Personally I'm going with 3.73's just because I still plan on commuting in my car. The RPM drone with 4.11s just isnt cool with me. But 4.11s are obviously better for acceleration

I don't really plan on going to the track much. Just driving it from time to time. I am also thinking 3.73

Think about this. Drive around for a week straight without ever going into 6th gear. That might give you a slight approximation to what 4.10's will be like. If that week doesn't bother you, then get 4.10's and never look back.

Yes but your 6th gear is not the same as '94-'97...

I don't go into 6th until I top 80mph, even then I'm still under 2k rpm.

I also drive a good bit on the interstate/freeway. And I dont know if I could make it without 6th. But I would be moving into town and living about .7 miles from where I work. Even still I wouldn't be driving it alot especially after the LE2. But 4.10 significantly weaken the 10 bolt right? That is the last thing that I want to do to an already inherantly weak diff. But I don't know yet. I am going to buy all the parts and take it to a PRO. This guy rebuilt my bro's in 02 SS after we did something improperly. We were given the wrong pinion seal by the dealership. But this guy got the right seal and fixed with new gears and rebuilt NEW everything in 2 days for $125. And he did a great job. But my bro bought all the parts himself.

My brother has a 97z m6 and broke 2 10 bolts with 4.10s and car has never seen a drag strip. ( I think his car needs a driver mod.) I put 3.73s in it now and so ar so good. I would say 3.73s if your not going to a 9" or 12 bolt. I've had 2 pinion seals leak in mine, can't seem to get the right one. we are going to tear it apart this fall and see whats going on.
