Default Poor performance after header install

Just installed long tube headers on my 93 z28. Now the car has a bit of a rough, luggy idle and acceleration. I blocked off the egr tubes, do I just need to get the egr tuned out now? I am also pulling code #13, which I believe is an o2 sensor issue.

The poor performance is most likely due to your o2 sensor(s).

Code 13 - Bank 1 (left) Oxygen Sensor (O2S) Circuit (open circuit).

I would check the wiring to that sensor. You might need a new sensor as well.

Also check your wires to see that you have all the wires onthe correct plug and none are burning up against the headers.

maybe cracked a spark plug during the install and the dead cylinder is causing the o2 to pick up the rich condition from the unburned fuel?

an o2 sensor will actually read lean from a dead cylinder, they do not measure fuel, just o2.

But i agree, check plug wires for damage and (i have done it) being on the wrong plug. Also did you get o2 extensions or did you make your own?

ALSO, did you have coated headers? You can ruin O2's from the initial heat cycle while the coating heats up for the first time. Always use old O2's for the first heat cycle.

EGR will not affect performance.

Made my own wiring extensions from the old sensors. The headers are not coated.
I'll take a look and see if I can find any connection problem.

Edit: Although I don't think I made an extension for the left sensor.

If you didn't, the sensor wouldn't be plugged in. I'd get under there and check it out.

What he probably means is it might have been long enough to not need to extend it from stock length. I think my drivers side was ok length...just pass. side had to be lengthened.

this

My car is kind of popping, almost sounds like a slight backfire on a cold start...is this another symptom of a bad o2?

And where I can find some single wire extensions for a 93z?

ebay for the extensions

o2 problems don't usually occur until after the car enters closed loop (running for a while)

I'd check for wire arching at night next
