Default Fuel pump troubleshooting

My fuel pump sounds like its barely priming now. I want to replace the relay and fuse to see if that will help, so does anyone have a part number for the relay? And what fuse is it? Its a 96 LT1 btw. Also how do you check the prime connector?

Save yourself all the trouble and attach a test gauge to check the pressure. The relay uses the PCM BAT fuse, so if the car is running, it's not that. The prime connector is there to manually run the pump when 12v is jumped to it.

Sh, I looked at your diagrams and see the priming connector. With a fuel pressure gauge connected, turning the key ON shows no pressure. I'm guessing this is where I try to manually jump the fuel pump? And, I do that by just running a wire to it from the battery or other 12v source?

This is for my '97Z by the way...

Yes, just run a 12v jumper from like the red plastic battery junction on the RH shock tower. For safety, the jumper should be fused.

Alright, I ran a fused wire from the + to the prime connector and nothing happened. Does the ignition have to be on when I do this? I think you said that the prime connector bypasses the relay, so it can't be the relay, right? By the way thanks for your site, it really is helpful...

On a 96 or 97 the prime wire still passes through the relay, but on the contacts that are normally closed when the relay is not operated. So, if those relay contacts were bad, it would not manually prime. 95 and earlier, the relay is completely bypassed by the prime wire.

Do some continuity testing to see if your circuitry is ok.

Please forgive my ignorance, but how do I that, and to what circuits am I doing that to? I have a voltmeter and a non-powered testlight if that helps, which reminds me, I tested the orange wire at the relay harness and there's power...
