Default roller rockers question

well i am thinking of buying something else to throw under the hood and thought i might start with some 1.6 nsa pro mags.. however, i have a question.

i always see people replacing / upgrading their valve springs and my question was if i am going to stick with the stock cam can i keep the stock springs on my heads? or am i going to upgrade. i only want to pick up rockers, rods and guideplates to keep down on cost, since i can't afford the 500 for long tubes plus some extra to install

thanks again guys

You don't have to upgrade but i would highly do it for to be safe. When you put 1.6s on you increse the lift and the stock spring cant handal it. I would atleast get lt4 springs. I got mine for about 55 bucks.

Yes sir you will need to upgrade To atleast Lt4 valvesprings and then get the 1.6rr. Also guideplates are recommended and needed. Mine as well get 7/16" roller rockers and rocker studs.

so should i use 3/8th in pushrods for added strength instead of 5/16? and about the guide plates - why do they sell flat ones and raised ones? what sort of application would raised be used in versus flat.

gonna assume i should get 3/8 and flat..thanks

i was considering that but aren't they rockers in the kit stamped? the cam is relatively small too, and the springs are barely able to hold it up. well, at least thats what i heard. i would rather get some nice strong rockers and strong springs and eventually put a 503 in it

though if the gains are worth the money saved i would consider it obviously... what can i expect from a hot cam kit? 20? 30 hp?

well if your thinking about the long run then definatly buy new springs and use those rr. whille ur at it by some valve seals too. trust me valve springs are not something you want to do twice so find yourself some good ones like behives or best bang for the buck 10308-1<<<<<thats what i used hard to find sence crane cams went out of business) once u have these things all you have to do is save up for the cam and the gaskets and ur good to go.

btw that lt4 hot cam makes like 318wrhp in an auto and the 503 makes like 330-340 in an M6

yeah i wouldnt mind that..through an auto you say? tuned and long tubes? i have an m6 so it would probably be closer to 325-330ish shouldnt it? i hear you on the valve springs..after reading about doing valve spring jobs and how much of a pita it is to get the ones under the cowl plastic i would want to only do them once. ill look into it some more might go through with it. is this a cam that is similar enough to stock that i wouldnt have to tune it unless i wanted the best gains? i know if i put a 503 in it or something like that i will not be able to drive it easily until i get a tune..thanks so much for the answers

my brother has the 503 and a friend i know has that cam to. my friend has full bolt ons and dyno'd at 331hp and 326tq thru m6. this cam will run ok w/o a tune but you will probably have like 230hp untill its tuned. im not sure about the lt4 cam but i would assume that if you change any cam it needs a new tune.
