Some say that 1KPA loss is equal to 1% power loss. Clearly there is some loss in the twisty intake chute.

Here is the thread with my testing and findings:

cool. i love the ram air setup. Here's my obligatory picture whoring of my own engine bay. good luck to those who want one. they are pricey and rare. i saw one at the T/A nats that had no gasket and a broken corner and it sold for $100. the same guy had a nicer box at home and he sold it to the guy who bought the crappy one for $200 as well. I got really lucky on mine and got the box which only needed to have some dbl sided tape applied to a couple small parts of the gasket (primarily the front part) and a K&N filter, along with the MAF to TB bellow, all for $115 shipped. that bellow from GM is $160 alone

On a dyno it prob would only make a slight difference. With a sealed factory set up at say about 100 mph the ram starts to take effect. Wich in my case means the last 20mph in the 1/4, im actually getting Ram Air gains!!. Not to mention the straight path helps a ton and even on a hot day the filter feels cool to the touch after a nice run.

Kind of funny how GM went back to the elbow on the 2010 SS.

They probably know that ram air is more cosmetic than anything.

i still think on LT1s it is the most effective setup. at least with the 5th gens they made the elbow have a direct path

yeah i was gonna say something like that. on an LT1 ram air is a major improvement over the 90 degree intake. on an LS1 it probably isn't as noticeable, especially because the airbox doesn't seal to the hood like it does on the LT1.

what bolts? i don't remember taking off a bunch of bolts to get my stock airbox off. it just came right out. i did have to break some attatchment clips to get my air silencer out. i just left the thing in the fender that the airbox used to attatch to and got one of those plates for the lower part. I think i actually mounted the headlight module sideways but oh well. it's held down with tape.

to get access to a CAI filter, you had to take off the panel under tae car to get to the filter. thats 7 bolts, then you had to attach the neck of the filter which sucked because the fit was so tight. i like now that i can take off my airbox normally

oh ok. i never had a CAI on my car, just a stock airbox w/ a K&N filter. i don't think i've ever taken off that access panel under the bumper. i once changed a turn signal bulb the hard way (sliding my hand into the tight space down there) because i didn't know the access panel existed, lol. I did pull down the middle section with the 3 clips to change the foglight bulbs but i have never removed one of the side panels

it fit the air box ? from what i see in the pics of the hood at the trufiber
site is a small air slot cut out behind the air nostrills.

I've had a 96' flat hood M6 Trans Am. Sold it to buy a 96' M6 WS6 and it did have a nice "suck" sound through the hood (mostly heard it immediatley after I shut the car off). Now I have a true "ram air" car, aka "procharger". You hear that thing sucken air like a kirby vacuum cleaner.

I have the air box with a K&N for sale. PM me offers for it.
